seems like AP is getting ore and more classic…
So my goal for the Halloween party at school is to win the costume contest again this year. Last year I won for Princess Bubblegum, which probably had something to do with painting myself pink. But now I know I have to one-up myself somehow this year, so I’m teetering on what to do.
I have my 85% complete Princess Peach dress sitting around in my closet, thenonly reason I’ve never worn it to a con is because it’s just not finished yet. I made it for Halloween in 2010, so it’s not like I’d be committing the “last year’s costume” faux pas. All I’d have to do to finish it is to add the scalloped collar, shorten the sleeves just a little, and make new earrings, brooch and crown - since I made them out of cardstock last time, and they just got thrown away after I wore it.
But then I’m sitting here on Pinterest today, and I think to myself wait. What if I wear a gothic coordiate and do a broken doll thing? I certainly have the makeup know-how thanks to work, and it probably wouldn’t be too hard to
make BJD stockings with some “cracks” in them, a la the tutorial that was floating around last year. It’d be pretty easy to
manage, and it’d give me an excuse to flex my makeup muscles for the first time since last year. If I really wanted to go for it, I could try to make some sort of marionette aparatus for my back, or at least some twine around my wrists. If I go with my Bodyline floral JSK for a super oldschool look, I’d want to
make peekaboo bloomers and possibly a bonnet.
My problem being that I can’t decide, I can’t really immediately hash out pros and cons. If I did a doll coordiate, I wouldn’t have to change for work, considering I’m going right there from campus. But it’d be more work than getting Peach ready… and yet I’d have to change out of Peach for work, and it’d be nearly impossible to ride the bus to campus that morning in the costume, or even if I had it in a trash bag because those petticoats are massive. But I know I have a chance to win with either Peach or a doll coordinate.
I’d go for creepy doll! Princess Peach fits more on a convention in my taste plus you’d have the bus problem with that outfit.
Painting tights is not that difficult to do and does not need much time. I’m sure you have most of the rest of the outfit already in your closet, so the amount of work to do should not be that much of a hindrance…
For me a good make-up really makes an outfit and costume work, so go for it! (Also I really prefer creepy/spooky outfits for halloween but that’s mostly my preference.)
If you need some more inspiration: I did a cracked doll thing for a masquerade ball once:
I also combinded the make-up with steampunk, adding some gears inside the cracks:
I’m sure you can pull that of a lot creepier and I would really like to see that ;)
Hope this helps a bit with your decision :)
